Pros
Decent pay and bennies. vacation time is generous. Decent union that works hard to maintain.
Cons
Antiquated technology. From the operating systems to the applications and hardware this is a step back in time. Most technology is 80's or older that has been maintained to the best of the ability of the techs as allowed by corporate decision making. Even newest technological upgrades are things that other companies were doing10-15 years ago. Everything is driven by budgets and when the budget is running out the service suffers because techs are told to not order supplies they need and no matter how backlogged work is there will be no overtime allowed to help catch up until the new budget is approved. Call centers for both customers and ones that techs call into are being flooded with new employees that do not have the necessary skills or experience with the applications they use. This has resulted in more of those job duties being added to the field techs. Finally I have never worked for a company that makes changes to their most vital programs, such as the one used by techs to access their service orders and trouble tickets, on a weekly basis that crash the system nation wide! Corporate seems to think that the techs are where wasted time and dollars are being spent so they began GPS tracking of our company smart phones which isn't a problem but gives a person the feeling that they aren't trusted. Perhaps smaller bonuses for the upper management would generate the savings they are looking for...
