Pros

Benefits are reasonable. Pay is good. The company, as a whole, is not a bad place to work, and there are opportunities to moove within the GE organizations once you have been there long enough. Many (most?) of the folks I worked with were reasonably happy in their position. The location of this site is good because it's betwween I-5 and CA-55, so there is pretty easy freeway access from most anywhere in the OC or LA areas. The corporation is investing millions in this site to upgrade equipment and facilities, and the new redone areas are very comfortable for the team.

Cons

Entirely depends on what part of the org. you are in. That's because the middle mgt. are extremely weak in some areas. It's risky to identify a specific area here because too many people would be able to figure out the specifics of this notice's authorship. Let it suffice to say that before signing on, get a shot at talking 1:1 candidly with people who are at the "worker bee" level and see what they tell you. I'd shoot for multiple people, because there are always some suckups, and they are most likely the ones first volunteered to talk to a candidate. Investigate how they feel about their direct mgt. and maybe one level up from that - and you should have a better idea of whether this is for you or not. MOST areas are good, so don't expect that you will get seriously negative answers. Everyone has *some* area of heartburn, and that can be dismissed; look for things that would be a problem for you personally if you had to endure the same, and try to know why the person feels the way they do. A poor performer will feel pressured to improve, but that may be completely valid.

Pros

The engineers who work hard and take themselves seriously are still working here and are great to collaborate with and solve problems. The projects are interesting, as long as your manager is considering your interests and career path. There are ample opportunities in commercial and military, with the commercial being more of a remote/Teams environment and military being more in person. Bonus structure is strong, 15%. Incentive pay for coming to work. Work life balance mostly depends on the job you sign up for.

Cons

Managers may not have come up through the engineering ranks and so they may not understand us. They focus more on process, like Flight Deck, than having actual knowledge to solve problems. The technical expertise in the sub section and especially section level has gone down in the last 5-10 years. This less technical management class seems to be impacting engineering turnover among the IC’s. Additionally, constant pivots, often due to inconsistent funding, also decrease morale. Lastly, it’s possible your manager doesn’t care as much about your career as they do just getting tasks done / covering the bases. Basically non-existent health care (very high premium and deductible for larger families). Biased hiring through Next Engineers.
