Pros

My fellow teachers and some of the administrators (not to be confused with “district”).

Cons

The Head of School (or as she now prefers to be called “The Superintendent “) is far from professional. 1) She lied to the staff by stating that a few of our administrators left because they wanted to. FACT: They were told that “GCA is going in a different direction and they would not be receiving a contract”. 2) She told one of the administrators that “The teachers may think you walk on water, but I know otherwise.” FACT: This particular administrator stuck up for the teachers and had the students’ best interest at heart. 3) During a meeting a concern was brought up about class sizes and she stated that “[she] wished she would have known about it earlier in the year so something could be done about it.” FACT: Several emails were sent from teachers to their leads and from leads to the principal. The principal mentioned the concerns in the principal’s meeting (with the “superintendent “), all near the beginning of the school year. One particular administrator was told, by those in scheduling, that they didn’t need her help. That same administrator had been in charge of scheduling for several years and had great ideas and knew what she was doing. And...that same administrator is one of the ones not offered a contract. 4) The “superintendent “ laughs at employees who ask legitimate questions. FACT: An employee asked about taking Fridays off if employees needed to go to an appointment. She laughed, rolled her eyes, and stated that no employee should be taking a Friday or a Monday off...she considers that an extension of the weekend, and it will be frowned upon. Several AMAZING teachers have chosen to leave and many AMAZING administrators were not asked to return. The “superintendent “ stated that she’s fine with that because she has “a stack of resumes on her desk!” I would encourage anyone seeking this type of employment to try Connections or K12 and only apply to GCA if you HAVE TO! It is a toxic work environment, to say the least.
