Pros

The HOK in Kansas City has some really great people. I really loved working with my team. We tried to maintain the culture of 360 by being a hard working close nit family. The talent threshold of the people here is inspiring and the diversity of projects is broad and interesting.

Cons

HOK struggles to allow young designers the opportunity to lead projects and meet clients. Because HOK's budget is so strict, many young people do not get the opportunity to travel and meet clients when projects are out of town. The male dominated structure is a huge issue as women are often skipped when it comes to offering leadership positions. Lastly, recent layoffs show how cut throat and inhumane HOK truly is. The layoffs occurred without even consulting senior leadership in the office (another office abroad made the decision of who to cut). The feeling of family was wiped away. Consider working for a company that actually cares about its employees.

Pros

As a new employee, what has stood out to me the most about the HOK-Tampa office is that the team is culturally diverse, respectful, collaborative, mentorship oriented, and the leadership is patient and encouraging. I value that as a recent M. Arch graduate, my questions are addressed kindly and effectively. The IT is also incredibly prompt to help with any issues, and the first week has a very smooth transition into the incoming tasks.

Cons

The monthly parking through the City of Tampa at the Fort Brooke Garage has a 2-3 year waiting list.
