Mercenary style led company. Not much space for innovation, ideas, passion as in missionary led companies. - Product Manager HomeToGo Employee Review

Pros

- People work hard. - Company is organized into departments that have well-defined roles. - Predictability - due to good organization and plans it's possible to predict what will happen - let's say in the next month. - Standing desks in the office. - Employees are mostly friedly people.

Cons

WATCH OUT: This company is led significantly in mercenary style, so there is less appreciation for innovation, passion and listening to user, as it is in companies which are most successful. At least HomeToGo is strategic, but strategic toward their idea of success (financial success of founders in the first place), instead of success for their users, which of course lowers quality and experience of the product, because it's not made with full dedication for the user. It took me a while to figure this out, you can read about mercenary vs missionary style in Harvard Business Review or some quitations of John Doerr , so that you can decide which style fits you better.

Pros

One of HTG's leadership principles is Embrace Change and Reduce Complexity, and it's something the company does well. New ideas and initiatives aren't limited to leadership. Anyone can identify opportunities for improvement and drive change. There's a strong culture of continuous improvement, and challenging existing processes is encouraged when it leads to simpler, more effective ways of working. If you have an initiative you want to spearhead and can demonstrate the impact it will have, you're generally empowered to run with it.

Cons

On the other side of things, the above can feel like an unofficial expectation for career progression. There are plenty of opportunities to learn, grow, and expand your skills, but this doesn't always translate into a formal role change. The path to progression can sometimes feel unclear, with the lines between excelling in your current role and demonstrating you're ready for the next becoming blurred. That said, this is an area HTG has been actively working to make more transparent, standardized, and equitable across departments.
