Cons

~ How many men sit in offices? How many women? The answer shows the disparity in management opportunities for women. ~ Maternity leave is a joke and is not taken seriously. ~ Management 'manages' by ordering people around, screaming, cursing, and degrading lower level associates. ~ No trust among employees because sales is constantly competing with each other, you're never allowed to work from home, editorial is obligated to do an unnecessary amount of work ~ If you decide to leave like many do, you are rarely given an exit interview because there is no intention to change the company ~ "Found my dream job at MJH" ---?? Really? You expect people to believe an employee happy with their job, decided to write that willingly? Or were they threatened? ~ Fornication nation between the president of the company (Mike Jr) and the associate level employees. HR tried their best to cover it up but only did so by giving the employee a $10,000 raise. DONT WORRY- now that that's over he is on to another girl. ~ The environment and culture is just plain miserable. Don't bother getting to know the people next to you because they will be gone in a month. ~ A 20+ year old company just decided to implement values but they are so far off it's comical. ~ MJH is a joke and the biggest waste of time for my career. After interviewing at other companies I have actually received apologies or "how were you there for so long? This is a small industry and many many people know the horrors of MJH.

Pros

The only reason I can see for the negative reviews is that you actually have to work hard! This company is the best in class when it comes to private hc communications- we are buttoned up and work fast paced, so if you're not intelligent/passionate/professionally driven... you will not last. It's an environment of excellence, not just 9-5'ers. And Sr management is always available to help the new faces - there's truly endless support and coaching. ALL are given the opportunity to succeed, to be heard. Yes, it's hard work, but no one is alone. We have a reputation for being the best, and that needs to be maintained. A truth you don't hear often is how compassionate the family owners are - because they don't publicize their good deeds. They're incredibly compassionate - they're just stoic, so you wouldn't assume how philanthropic they truly are.

Cons

Since there are a lot of people right out of college, those folks are usually new to corporate, and therefore don't realize that you're expected to work hard in corporate! This is to be expected, but it contributes to the glass-half-empty theme on Glassdoor. The complainers are the ones that haven't realized the grass isn't greener. They'll learn eventually! Since the work is hard, burn out happens. This is the price for opportunity, however. And the usual small company woes - benefits could improve, but they likely will as we grow (new acquisition).
