Pros

IT Solutions, LLC is in the Federal Government contracting business. Right now it has several IT contracts with various federal agencies around the District, Virginia and Maryland. Most of the contracts are on site with the agency they support (ie if the contract is with the CIA, then IT Solutions, LLC supplies the employees who work at the CIA) and involve progressively more complex Tiered technical support which makes the best reason to work for IT Solutions--the internal growth potential. I have to give the company credit for claiming to promote from within and then ACTUALLY promoting from within. A person starts out as a Tier I support analyst (on the phones) and works that job for 6 months and then applies for Tier 2 (deskside support) and so on. There is no limit to the growth potential with this company if you can suck everything else up.

Cons

Inconsistent communication. There are many communication problems with this company. From the corporate office to whatever site the employees work to management to the employees and, of course, the non-existent training. Seriously, if you've EVER worked for the federal government, than you know what an alphabet soup it can be and management expects you to learn all this in about 4 weeks which would be okay if they were UP FRONT about it--but its implied and subject to the employee's ability to mind read. HOWEVER, remember the best reason to work for this company, suck it up the soup and you too can be Tier 2 and then a project manager.

Pros

Lots of opportunity for advancement, company prefers to promote from within. HR is a class act - everything there is run like clockwork, with lots of detail with regards to benefits, etc... 401K matches @ 4%, immediate vesting. Short and long term disability fully paid by company, as is $50K in life insurance. Even medical HMO is fully paid for employee only. Company has annual holiday party, annual picnic, regular staff briefings, and free lunch every month!

Cons

Medical for family coverage is quite expensive. No cost of living raises. No bonuses. Annual performance raises are paltry.

Pros

The top reason to work for ITSolutions is the growth and career development opportunity. Management is willing to take some risk and give opportunity to employees who may not have all the requisite experience for a task or project. This risk gives employees an opportunity to grow and learn new skills without having to change companies. ITSolutions also offers a "community feel" with numerous employer sponsored events (annual picnic, local sports leagues, informal training/learning sessions). Additionally, the top-level senior management team talks to employees and congratulates them on their successes, both in and out of work. This shows middle and upper level managers are noticing and communicating the success of their team "up the ladder."

Cons

ITSolutions is still a small organization; however, not small enough to be considered a Small Business. They face challenged due to their size and competition from other companies in the same field. While communication frequently moves "up the ladder," it is inconsistent "down the ladder." The company newsletter and other status emails are infrequent and often paint an incomplete picture of current activities. The bonus system is not used uniformly across the company, so some teams are rewarded more than others based on their manager and visibility. Great strides have been made with the employee intranet; however, the documentation is sparce and frequently out of date.
