Pros

Your experience will depend on where you are placed e.g. school/city/prefecture/housing. I had a wonder time on JET, I was fortunate enough to work with some great teachers, students and a supportive BOE. The pay on JET is by far the best you'll get when working in Japan. There are no bonuses for ALT's but the base pay is higher than most places you'll find in Japan. Seeing students enjoy your classes is very rewarding.

Cons

This will depend on where you are placed, school management, students, the number of schools you are placed to go to. I had a positive experience so can't really comment

Pros

JETs have support from CLAIR , their Board of Education, and local AJET chapters. CLAIR provides training, orientations, and even funding for teaching certifications.

Cons

Some ALTs co-teach actively and feel valued; others get stuck reading from a script. Your school, co-workers, and Board of Education make a big difference.
