      Pros

      It really depends on your school and city/town but the best parts for me were: 1. Great placement - Sendai is accessible and my students were great 2. Good salary 3. Wonderful people - other JETs and locals

      Cons

      You have no control over where you get placed. I don't think I would be as happy if I had to cycle to work regardless of the weather/take a ferry as a part of my commute to work (yes, it happens). But that's me. My friends had no problems with that!

      Pros

      JETs have support from CLAIR , their Board of Education, and local AJET chapters. CLAIR provides training, orientations, and even funding for teaching certifications.

      Cons

      Some ALTs co-teach actively and feel valued; others get stuck reading from a script. Your school, co-workers, and Board of Education make a big difference.
