Pros

I have worked at this company for quite a few years now, beginning as a cashier, and then receiving a promotion to shift leader, then later to food service manager. However, I am now a cashier again because I went back to school to obtain my J.D. One of the biggest pros for me is the flexible scheduling, which is necessary for me, due to my academic schedule. Some other pros are PTO, 401k, company health insurance, and free coffee and soda while on the clock. This job has been paying my bills while I figured out what I wanted to do as an actual career. It also has been allowing me to get by, until I finally receive my degree and start my actual career. This job definitely isn't only bad, as explained here.

Cons

Kwikfill is plagued by numerous issues, which have been consistently getting worse over time. It is to a point where it has been almost unbearable to continue my employment here. First, the location that I work at is ridiculously understaffed. It doesn't matter which part of the store you are scheduled to work in, no matter what, you are going to be working alone and get no breaks. Our store is way too busy to be effectively working alone at. There will be times where I run to the bathroom for one minute while on register, and when I get back, there is a massive line of angry customers wondering why nobody is there. Then, in food service/subway, it gets so busy that you have piles of dishes, you're drowning in orders, you're unable to get any of the required daily task list completed, you're running out of prepped food items because you cannot get time to prep more, and many other very frustrating things. On top of doing the work of 2-3 people, you certainly are not getting compensated fairly for all that stress. This cycle of being consistently understaffed and being treated like a machine eats away at your dignity and self-respect. Second, the company does not take things like food safety and maintenance requests seriously whatsoever. For example, our location has a cold refrigeration unit to hold perishable grocery items for sale. The store's air conditioning unit is broken, so it is regularly 90 degrees or hotter in the store, and this refrigeration unit is unable to keep the food at a safe holding temperature. When I raised this concern to people in corporate, they did absolutely nothing to fix it. They would rather get people sick than to lose profit by installing a new unit. This is just one example, and there are many more. Third and lastly, due to the low pay that the company offers, the turnover rate here is astronomically high, and the employees that do manage to get hired are always absolutely awful. Generally, the company hires anybody with a pulse, which definitely shows. To make matters worse, the company never holds bad employees accountable for their laziness and other poor decisions. The only way you get fired here is if you straight up commit theft. Other than that, you can do virtually nothing on your shift and receive zero repurcussions.
