Pros

You really get a lot of hands on experience, which is what I was looking for as an intern. It can be challenging at times when new material presents itself, but I found the staff to be supportive and point you in the right direction.

Cons

This is not a paid summer opportunity.

Pros

LASOC works endlessly to provide legal aid to underrepresented communities in a way that maintains individual dignity and promotes awareness and self-sufficiency. The lawyers and employees and volunteer attorneys work tirelessly and are amazingly dedicated. If you are looking for a job with lots of client interaction and direct representation this is the place. Clients are treated very well, despite some occasions where they are one of many all trying to get help by a few attorneys.

Cons

Micro-management is definitely not a thing here, which can be good, but sometimes it can leave people in over their heads a bit with not enough supervision. It can definitely lead to mixed information given to the client sometimes, but usually any conflicts are resolved. You have be comfortable diving in head-first and not being afraid to ask a lot of questions as they come up.
