Pros

World-class research resources and collaborators; strong intellectual environment; access to cutting-edge facilities and seminars; high autonomy and opportunities to publish and build a strong network.

Cons

Mentorship quality varies significantly across groups; workload and expectations can be unpredictable; administrative processes can be slow; work-life balance depends heavily on the PI/lab culture rather than institute-wide norms.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
