Pros

Remote work provides good flexibility, MIT benefits are excellent, and some colleagues are genuinely kind and supportive.

Cons

No real upward mobility. Promotions are often discussed but rarely materialize. Pay is below industry standards, and many employees are primarily assigned repetitive grunt work with limited opportunities for growth or skill development. Additionally, some individuals in management positions are unnecessarily rude and unprofessional, which contributes to a negative work environment.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
