Pros

1) People: The students, staff and faculty members are some of the smartest people on this earth. This makes working at MIT a truly enriching experience of a lifetime. 2) Collaboration: Continuing with the people theme, research and learning is collaborative in nature at MIT. Exchanging ideas with peers is the most efficient way of learning according to me. 3) Location: Cambridge, MA is a very lively and fun town with a lot of young working professionals and students.

Cons

Working at MIT can get very stressful sometimes. Knowing that there are resources for help and having a good social circle and help navigate through such tough phases though.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
