Pros

The reputation of MIT is a huge help in securing offers for jobs and internships. Out of the blue, I receive on average one interested offer per month. The opportunities for research are extremely diverse. MIT's resources are almost unlimited, with venture capital firms constantly hovering around waiting to give funding to research groups. Funding is not a problem at all at MIT, there are plenty of sources, especially for research projects related to energy.

Cons

The workload is very demanding. I did my undergrad at MIT, and expected at least some bit of reprieve from long nights of work. This did not exactly happen; I am still working many evenings per week to keep up with research and classes.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
