Lots of workplace bullies. Highly competitive environment, people will do anything to get ahead. ZERO work-life balance. Very long work hours. Your PI may expect you to be in the lab 24/7 and will call you on evenings and weekends. You will be pushed very hard to produce impactful and "significant" research. You will have very little time to actually invest deep thought into what you're doing. Ironically, this culture compromises the quality of the science significantly even though you are regularly working 80 hours a week.
