Pros

long-term benefits, good way to get your foot in the door as an entry level applicant

Cons

Overworked, underpaid. There is a desperate need for more employees as the current ones are most definitely overworked in both regards to work load as well as the amount of yelling/screaming/scolding we receive from patients as well as the medical staff. Unfortunately there is a head count limit and administration is very conservative in hiring more PSRs

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
