Pros

Genuine care for employees - great benefits, flexi-time office hours, fair salary and a friendly, welcoming team. There are some new and interesting projects in the EduTech and Corporate Software fields being worked on here, as well as some already successful and established products. As a medium sized company, it gives employees an opportunity to make an impact but with more job security than a smaller startup. Response to COVID-19 has been really well handled with very minimal furloughed staff and a sensible work from home policy. There has been very little disruption in my day to day responsibilities so far all things considered.

Cons

None that I've yet encountered.

Pros

The products have a solid reputation in the education market and there are talented employees who genuinely care about customers and helping schools succeed. The US team works hard and does its best despite limited resources and support.

Cons

After more than five years with the company, I have seen very little investment in the US team. Career growth opportunities are virtually nonexistent, morale is low, and compensation has changed very little despite increased expectations. Leadership in the UK appears disconnected from the realities of the US market. The US office is often treated more like a reseller than a strategic part of the business. Support from leadership, legal, and other departments is often difficult to obtain, even when customer requests are time sensitive and directly impact revenue opportunities. I have personally lost deals because required documentation was not prioritized. There is a noticeable difference between benefits offered in the UK versus the US. For example, paid paternity leave is available for UK employees but not for US employees. The sales organization continues to face increasing expectations without meaningful incentives. Cloud products provide minimal commission opportunity, and sales teams are effectively told they need to sell significantly more to earn meaningful increases in compensation. At the time of this review, we are well into the fiscal year and there is still a lack of clearly defined goals and incentive plans. Recognition is also lacking. Employees who consistently perform, contribute, and help others rarely receive meaningful acknowledgment. Instead, there is an increasing focus on activity metrics and monitoring, which creates the impression that leadership does not trust its employees. The open-door policy does not feel truly open. Many employees do not feel comfortable raising concerns because they believe feedback will be ignored or could negatively impact their standing within the company.
