Pros

Great corporate culture with a lot of little perks to keep employees happy. Some of the smartest people you've ever met - so many people to learn from. Exciting technology with plenty of potential.

Cons

Change is a constant - more so than the typical start-up. The problem the technology is trying to solve is extremely difficult, and in the past the company has been overzealous in talking about the possibilities of what it should be able to do someday, not the realities of what it can do today, putting pressure on the engineering team.

Pros

I've been with NuoDB for a number of years now: the focus of the company has improved markedly. For a while we were chasing any dollar we could find, which led to some schizophrenic (and not productive) requirements and unfair burdens on the dev team. In the last 12-18 months that has (mostly) stopped and we've identified a reasonable target market and taken the time to stabilize the product. * Fantastic, smart people * Challenging and exciting technology * Great environment: open, collaborative, transparent mgmt team * Flexible: work from home is fine, good PTO * Good work/life balance: taking vacation is encouraged, family responsibilities are taken seriously. I've worked many places, even bigger companies, with much worse attitudes. * Move to Alewife... much more convenient (and less expensive)

Cons

* Codebase is showing some age. * Even with tighter focus we have more things we need to do than people to do them. * Emphasis on a few large accounts is great for the company but need to be careful that it's good for the product, too. * Move to Alewife... Kendall is much more fun. At least it's still a quick, convenient T ride away from Cambridge.
