      * The level of autonomy and ability to affect change within the company is unmatched. * The all-remote workstyle is truly all-remote. * Highly selective process means everyone's good at what they do. Haven't had to deal with jerks. * Mostly flat organizational style means a more cooperative atmosphere rather than competing for promotions.

      Cons

      * Compensation can be on the lower side of if you live in the US, especially if you live in a coastal city * The level of autonomy can be too much for people who prefer to work with a direct manager that gives them tasks * Negotiating your rate well to start is very important, as raises are percentage-based and team-wide rather than individual.       Pros

      True open source mentality (most of the work is contributed upstream), fully remote and async, very high quality team -- and nice people!

      Cons

      Achieving what is expected can be challenging, especially at the beginning while learning everything, so it's better to have in mind that it will be a significant effort. It's possible to get to a good pace though - most people who pass the trial period end up staying for a very long time.

      Pros

      Everything is set up for effective remote work. Requirements are detailed and precise, and developers can manage their own time. Standards are high, with rigorous code reviews and very talented colleagues. Strong free software ethos - everything is open source.

      Cons

      Some of the work is a bit tedious (lots of DevOps tasks). The edX project has a lot of stakeholders, so each change goes through several rounds of review and the pace of development can be very slow.
