Pros

Pride in the product, great engineering teamwork. There are some of the very experienced and talented digital television engineers working at the company. You can learn alot about technology working at the company and with these people.

Cons

There is little chance for advancement. Since the company is still struggling to make a profit, money is always tight. This limits growth opportunities for the company, and hence the employees. The multiple changes in CEOs, moving to SF from Mtn. View, lack of clear product specs and project management, feeds the perception of poor executive vision and leadership. There is a steady stream of maintenance issues that engineers need to work on, it is not all new product feature work. The individual groups at OpenTV are very separated, there is not enough learning and idea exchanging going on between the teams.

Pros

Was a great place to work before Nagra (Kudelski Group) bought our company. We had multiple products, an office full of employees. Our teams were making huge goals such as our middleware team had implemented a milestone of over 200 million set-top boxed with OpenTV middleware worldwide and everyone in the office was a team. Advertising signed 3 major MSO's to its Eclipse Product and rolled out a new product Eclipse Plus to the market.

Cons

After Kudelski did a hostile takeover of OpenTV back in 2010, departments were split off, personnel were shrunk and the old remainder of OpenTV was the Advertising Software group. Inevitably like all the other divisions of OpenTV, it was sold off in Oct 2014. The remainder of OpenTV's products are now Imagine Communications. OpenTV was a great medium size middleware, software company that had positive cash reserves and happy employees. Nothing positive came out of the Nagra/Kudelski take over.
