Pros
If you have a lot of energy for bureaucracy, can navigate antiquated infrastructure and the products of a campus that pays lots of lip service to equity and inclusion, and love student development work, this place is for you. There are pockets of wonderful colleagues and community, you just have to search and be patient.
Cons
If you are coming from anywhere outside of Oregon but especially California give yourself and extend grace, there’s a leaning curve to the niceties and performativity around kindness. The campus is resource rich in STEM and not so great everywhere else. This makes an impact on the entire experience. OSU is comfortable with mediocrity a lot of the time, and sadly does a terrible job in retaining BIPOC and LGBTQ+ talent.
