Pros
One of the things I've always loved about Pg, and one of the main reasons I joined in the first place, is that I genuinely believe we're actually solving a real problem. People hear the word "insurance" and it leaves a bad taste in their mouth - but that's exactly why Policygenius exists. Insurance itself is actually a wonderful thing; protection for when tragedy hits. The problem is, how do you figure out what you need? How do you understand exactly what you're buying? How do you find a reputable company that will actually pay out? Those are just a few of the questions Pg helps people answer every day, and it makes me happy that my work is doing some good in the world. Not only do you get to solve real problems, but you get to do so with some great co-workers. The people who work here truly are incredible, humble, intelligent, hard-working, pleasant individuals, and I honestly think of many of them as not just my co-workers, but my friends. We work hard, but we're also joking around with each other all day - makes coming to work every day that much better! We're extremely collaborative at Pg, so these relationships are very important. In general, culture is held to a high importance at Pg, and it not only makes the day-to-day enjoyable, but it fosters a community of mutual respect - you won't find any office politics here. There are also plenty of opportunities to bond with those you might not get to work with every day through happy hours, outings, clubs, and sports teams.
Cons
Competing priorities - at the end of the day, the entire company is working toward the same goals, but it can sometimes feel like we have conflicting priorities between teams, which it makes it difficult to be as collaborative as we'd like to be since everyone is focused only on hitting their own goals. I just think we could do a better job with cross-team knowledge sharing and remembering what we're really working towards. Hiring - the company actually puts a lot of effort into this and I appreciate the dedication and care that is put into interviewing, because it means we really do hire the best of the best, but doing so takes time. This isn't really a con on Pg, more just an acknowledgement that we don't have the capacity we'd like to yet.
