Pros
I've worked at a few startups and I've seen the best and worst of what a "startup" has to offer. Having worked at a company that overspent at every opportunity it's nice to work somewhere where the leadership team is not only smart with their money but where they are also kind and want to help you reach your potential. We’re backed by some top investors in the valley, some of which actually come in and talk with us and tell us why they believe in us. Talk about motivation! The office is in the perfect location for commuters (car and train alike) and the office is nicely done without being too showy. Standup desks are standard and we have quarterly volunteer trips where we help out in our community. We all have lunch together bi-weekly and the CEO is very transparent with everyone. The CEO even sits in the office all of us and is very approachable – no closed doors here unless you’re in one of the conference rooms of course. You’ll find people actually interacting with each other and asking about their weekends, bringing their kids in for a visit, going for walks or talking shop. It’s a friendly place to work. Most of us come from pretty diverse software/tech backgrounds and a good chunk of the team comes from top PLM companies in the space so we are in good company. Seriously, the knowledge of our leadership team and account executives is unparalleled. Come talk PLM, PIM or QMS with us and you’ll see. One of the nicest things about working at Propel is that the leadership team is aware that most of us have families and lives outside of the office so a healthy work-life balance is a given here. It’s honestly the best work-life balance I’ve ever had at a job. No crazy demanding hours and no one slacking you at 2am to put out a fire (one of the perks of being built on Salesforce). As a team we are always trying new things, learning and seeing what works, and acknowledging when something didn’t work or when we screwed up. It's truly a great time to be at Propel. Since we are built on Salesforce we spend less time worrying about broken code or downtime and more time making awesome products so our customers can make awesome products. It’s a really good work environment and I’m glad to be here!
Cons
It’s a fact that startups aren't for everyone. We are still figuring things and seeing what works for us and our vision. The leadership team is learning with the rest of us and that's not ideal for every type of person. Some people like quiet spaces and not hearing sales calls or chatter but when you’re all in the same big room it’s not exactly quiet all the time but hey that’s why we have headphones right? We are still testing out and learning which technologies we like and building out our messaging. For some people it can be nerving and scary to be somewhere where things aren’t set in stone on a monument somewhere. But! If you like building and riding the roller coaster you should come take advantage of this awesome situation. We’re a blank canvas of sorts but it’s stable in the important ways (benefits, work-life balance, compensation) with lots of room and opportunity to contribute to the company’s vision and future.
