Pros

Don’t make me laugh.. ha

Cons

By far the WORST ran rail operation I ever been apart of in my 12 years in the industry… our Yardmasters are clueless and always give us important information when it’s way too late. This place will always try to squeeze every drop out of you also. You have to constantly do jobs you’re not assigned to which any railroader knows that’s not how it goes.

Pros

Most people are nice to work with and genuinely good people which provided me a lot of personal growth opportunity. Great cafeteria food and gym provided to Nicholasville employees. 100% 401K Match, but long vesting period. Company has diversified income streams and definitely is a stable employer. Mass layoffs are pretty rare and the most recent site closure provided employees options for staying within the company. Hybrid work environment for knowledge workers. A lot of travel (if you like travel).

Cons

Low pay and benefits. You start at 1 week of PTO, and it doesn't increase until after your 5th year. No sick time. Stressful work-life balance with a lot of short notice travel and 24/7/365 on-call expectations. Limited potential for progression within the company due to long tenures and mismanagement. Budget is wasteful and used toward unnecessary hard assets over people. Bureaucracy often used as an excuse instead of just getting things done. You will be fired upon giving your two weeks notice.
