Annual reviews are based on goals set earlier in the year, but they tend to end up tying in with what you actually accomplished regardless of what your initial goals were, therefore there is no accountability. Furthermore, the company pivots it's macro and micro strategy too often, so what you are hired for will change and you can end up doing something completely different a year down the road. Because of these strategic pivots, they abandon projects before they have the opportunity to become mature, which is frustrating because you pour your heart and soul into a project and if it's not a huge success out of the gate, it gets axed.
