Pros

-Bright future. The information security industry is projected to grow almost 30% from 2013 to 2016, according to Gartner Research. Of course Rook is positioned to ride this wave, but leadership has even bigger plans than merely doing that. -Ambitious. Rook is uniquely entrepreneurial for the Midwest, even for tech companies. See a problem outside of your domain? Propose a solution, and you will probably see it implemented. Pragmatism rules here. -Continuous learning. Colleagues are genuinely curious. They are passionate about discussing new technologies and ideas.

Cons

To be truly successful in tech you absolutely *must* recognize and avoid the trappings of our industry: Unplug regularly. Balance work and play. Exercise. Our field changes quickly, but you must keep an eye on your long term health.

Pros

Something new can be thrown at me every single day (and has been many, many times during my internship), which results in getting tons of experience in a really wide range of systems, services, and concepts. The people at Rook are great people, and teamwork is a very regular and natural thing here. The internship pays well, and as a full-time student I've found that they're very flexible with the work schedule of students. In the time I've had this internship, I've been able to successfully apply nearly every single concept I've learned through four years of higher education, in addition to constantly learning new things. For those that can handle the pressure, I completely believe that this is an excellent internship that I'm sure will lead to many great opportunities in the future.

Cons

It can be really challenging to have to pick up, learn, and become a professional in so many different areas in a sometimes unrealistic amount of time. While the experience is great, sometimes it can be very overwhelming and turn into a massive amount of stress. This sometimes makes the balance between life and work difficult to manage. The environment can be stressful sometimes, and not everyone can handle that type of situation. Most of the employees are also interns, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I would like seeing more full-time employees compared to mostly interns.
