Pros
People working at Ryerson are among the hardest working people in any industry or job. The benefits are good and comprehensive, the skill set acquired and knowledge gained working here are unmatched. You can run circles around anyone in your next job and make more money just because you're used to working yourself hard for less. The CEO seems to a lot more forward thinking than most.
Cons
Not only is this a "boys club" it's also an egocentric, and condescending environment. People are undervalued (maybe temporarily bought over with catered lunches and Ryerson gear) but stay to their desks 8 hours a day and asked to keep bathroom breaks to a minimum to make sure the phones are answered. Inter-department mistrust and hostility because management has fostered a culture of blame. Commission plans are purposely unclear and confusing (and commission is few and far between). Ryerson Academy is a pro and negative as it trains the company's potential future, but the company is not ready for the change or the future at all. Also, employees were once asked to write positive reviews.
