There is absolutely no opportunity for advancement if you don't know the "right people". There are times when you are treated like a second class citizen if you're not in with certain people, and management in general is incompetent at all levels and locations. It's a good place to start off working, especially if you are new to an area. If you're looking for a career, find somewhere else. If you're just looking for a paycheck, it's great.
