Pros
Great support - I moved from across the country and they helped me find somewhere to live, I saw this mirrored for other new staff, so its not a one off! Excellent range of projects, keeps work interesting, and you work is rarely repeated. Opportunity to do others tasks which do not involve coding, such as visiting customer sites, going out on boats, university open days, etc. Support for working in remote locations or from home. Open friendly environment, issues are handled seriously and the HR staff will always go out of their way to help you.
Cons
Lots of legacy code, and some staff members push an old fashioned methods of software development. These devs sometimes write procedural code in an OO environment or just don't seem to make use of OO concepts. Resistance toward modern standards such C++ 11/14/17 . Code review is not great. Lack of Open Source software used, often reinventing the wheel. Can be frustrating depending on the project you are on. Not all projects are equal. Some of management have too strong an opinion and a bit too much say over the dev teams some of the time. Two office locations which are way too far from each other.
