Pros

Fueled mostly by the passion and dedication of the community of volunteers, conference speakers, and a few genuine staff members. Built on the blood, sweat, and tears of musicians, filmmakers, and digital creators. CEO Hugh Forrest's vision kept the content going.

Cons

Inconsistencies across departments and event management, with volunteers and seasonal staff being treated like fodder. Volunteers are treated as lower-class and are instructed not to speak to full-time staff. Too many silos and fiefdoms fueled by a toxic culture of cliques, favoritism, nepotism, and discrimination. Extended hours at low to no pay. Posted compensation for recent job postings is appalling and lower than average for the industry.

Pros

There were a lot of changes happening for the 2026 season of SXSW and everyone worked extremely hard to kick what felt like a brand new festival.

Cons

The seasonal months are too short, starting in January and ending at the end of March required too quick of on boarding and navigation.

Pros

Worked as a "seasonal" hire and had a great, if short, experience. Great coworkers and fun environment. Biggest perk is getting to attend SXSW for free, but you'll be busy during the event.

Cons

Decisions were made by the parent company to test using an agency to help with digital marketing while I was there. This was not communicated to me while hiring and seemed to come as a surprise to the team. Some of my duties where offloaded, but my manager did his best to find other areas where I could contribute.
