Pros

Outstanding Training & Onboarding: Softcat sets you up for success with one of the best onboarding programmes in the industry. From product knowledge to sales skills, everything is taught in a structured, engaging way. Vibrant Office Culture: The Marlow office has a real buzz – high energy, music playing, floor games, and a genuinely fun environment to work in. If you’re sociable and enjoy team spirit, you’ll feel right at home. Supportive Management: Managers are approachable and genuinely invested in your growth. Regular 1:1s, career coaching, and recognition of small wins make a big difference. Uncapped Commission Structure: If you’re motivated, the earning potential is massive. Top performers can earn far beyond their base salary, and success is celebrated across the business. Internal Progression: Many senior leaders started as grads or sales execs. There’s a clear pathway if you want to develop and climb the ladder. Inclusive & People-First Culture: There’s a real emphasis on mental health, wellbeing, and diversity. You’re treated as more than just a number. Benefits & Perks: From fun company events and team lunches to gym discounts and flexible working – Softcat offers great perks that actually matter day to day.

Cons

High Pressure Targets: The sales targets can be intense, especially during your ramp-up period. It’s a performance-driven culture, so those who don’t hit KPIs may feel the pressure quickly. Not for Everyone: The environment is very lively and sales-focused — which is amazing for extroverts, but may feel overwhelming or overly competitive to quieter personalities. Steep Learning Curve: With such a broad product portfolio and complex client needs, there’s a lot to learn fast. It can feel like information overload in the first few months. Work-Life Balance: Although there’s some flexibility, peak periods (like quarter-end) can involve long hours. You need to manage your time well to stay on top of everything. Internal Systems: Some systems and processes can feel outdated or clunky compared to the company’s modern culture. Improvement is ongoing, but it’s worth mentioning.

Pros

Having a supportive team, competitive salary, and focus on work-life balance, Softcat aims to provide a workspace outside the experience one might usually find in corporate America. In my time here, they have delivered on each front by encouraging us to learn and lean on each other while in the office, the space has become collaborative rather than competitive, which has been an inspiring point to put my best foot forward. Various team outings, in-office events, or shared lunches with direct seniors shed light on the people behind the business model and established workplace comradery I was unfamiliar with.

Cons

While the team is supportive, the learning curve can be steep and sometimes overwhelming. With Softcat's wealth of offerings, it's important that you prioritise time management skills and lean on your seniors in the beginning, which can, at times, feel discouraging; without a true daily marker for progress, you may not know how much you have already learned in a short time.
