Pros

Apart from all the perks of Friday lunches, happy hours, random events like having a bunch of puppies in the office or going paint balling, the best part is employees are empowered to find and fix problems. Employees are treated as real people by the C levels and valued as members of their various teams. The Seattle office is very casual and easy to work in. It is definitely nice to not feel like a disposable part in a large machine. I can easily say that this is the best place I have worked and something truly horrible to make me voluntarily leave.

Cons

We go fast and sometimes that means forgoing doing things the right way. From a server and security standpoint, that can be scary. I have had more than one time where someone on the team spent 16+ hours working on a project to have that abandoned for a different direction. Communication can sometimes be lacking or non-existent to the point that you don't know why you are doing something and you just hope that it provides value to the company. There is too much work to get done in a 40 hour week so there's a lot of prioritization that goes on and some projects that might help a few people's tasks easier are never touched. Follow the money right?

Pros

This company not only provides a lush, comfortable environment for motivated employees to work at their best abilities - but allows maximum work/life balance. As a designer, providing internal and external marketing services to the company, I get amazing and fun projects constantly! The software engineers I work with are completely open and friendly - no need to hold back here. We have weekly office lunch and happy hours as well as monthly team-building activities. From an epic boat scavenger hunt on Lake Union to bowling or putt putt nights, there's no limit on fun here! But on top of it all - we define the phrase "work hard play hard." Culture is vital but we put our heads down and grind all week long. Then we have a pretty awesome, low-key Friday. We also love to research industry trends and learn new technology (like VR games and fixing 3D printers). I always say that SweetLabs is the 'MiracleGro' to my career. This place allows my portfolio and resume experience to blossom as I never thought possible! The future is so bright I gotta wear shades B)

Cons

As we are still a young company - there are always trial and errors moments. But I believe this is the most vital stage for discovery and growth! While we continue to find our latest direction in the latest mobile or computer technology, we shall also form our identity and foundation. If you want a static corporate (profit matters most) environment that is well-engrained in societal expectations and demands - avoid a start up company. They are TOO fun for that nonsense ;)
