Pros

Flexible schedule, experience working with students, people working there are real nice.

Cons

There seems to be little room for adding to curriculum for more seasoned tutors who choose to commit to this company a long time, and new tutors are trained to just follow a template and teach how Sylvan wants them to teach. The training is mostly on computer with a few shadow sessions, then off you go like a cashier! That's at least how it felt, for a place that required a 4 year degree. Also, "active" (more challenging) students tend to get put with newer tutors just out of training, and that's because the center was short-staffed that day. I have known 3 directors over me in a year that I worked for this company. Prizes in treasure box are often flimsy and short-lived for medium token price ranges, I remember some kids looking in prize box and saying everything was junk, and they were supposed to be in a "privileged program," whatever that means to a kid... The curriculum could use Bloom's Taxonomy to become more engaging for students since pubic schools rely on that. Not sure if that has been considered or not.

Pros

The work culture used to be pretty great. The end of the year perks around Christmas have always been my favorite. Birthdays and holidays always acknowledged. The work itself is easy but tedious and often time consuming. They don't make you feel bad for using your vacation time.

Cons

Management tends to have a bit of favouritism. Men are taken more seriously than women. Certain long tenured people can get away with anything without any reprecussions. Bad behaviors are often excused.
