Pros

Employment is always good. But: check out the "cons".

Cons

I was inspired to write this after a LinkedIn post went viral - the post listed 15 signs of a toxic work environment. My experience at System1 checked at least half of the boxes. The first major sign: lots of people resigning, and a shared understanding that everyone is looking for another job. I was at the company for 16 months, and I had a total of 8 supervisors. There is no space to grow: the first level position of Research Associate, which I occupied, was tasked with the same duties as two levels up. So basically you are doing the same rote tasks for at least 5 years, regardless of job title. There is no merit-based promotions - you must do at least x amount of time before being considered for a promotion. You also aren't welcome to make your own decisions - emails must be checked by your supervisor (even the most cursory ones) before sending.

Pros

Over the past couple of years, there's been a strong focus on growth in the US which has resulted in consistent builds in momentum. This has meant there's more opportunity for individuals and the team as a whole. The New York location feels like an important hub for System1 again, with most new roles being built from there, while still maintaining the ability for remote work. The NY office has a lot of energy, it's a place that people want to work from, and as such the culture is bouncing back. Updated onboarding and training processes are well structured and thought out - an absolute must for a growing region.

Cons

My personal opinion is that expectations and realities of some roles are mis-aligned. The key to success at S1 is to learn as much as possible and feel comfortable applying research knowledge with clients at any stage of the sales funnel, otherwise it's easy to fall behind.
