Pros

Company Vehicle, Paid to drive, Overtime. You get to be outdoors almost everyday as a field technician. Not stuck in an office. Mostly steady work. You get gift cards for being safe and documenting unsafe activity. Per diem for travel. You can accrue Hotel/Flight points whilst traveling. Fleet company takes care of you if your truck breaks down or you get stuck somewhere. Annual end of calendar year bonus.

Cons

You must follow speed limits at all times, even if a lot of times that feels more unsafe than following the flow of traffic. Can't talk on the phone while driving, even with bluetooth. When it rains, your work is usually cancelled for the day, if not multiple days, which means you get no hours. Confronting angry landowners is not uncommon. There isn't much room for advancement from the field tech position, unless you get an engineering degree, your supervisor gets promoted, quits or retires. Depending on the field you work in, you will have to travel for work often and stay in hotels often, which gets old quickly. Engineers are sometimes out of touch with the reality of field work and what to expect from you. You might have to purchase things for a project with your own money and get reimbursed on your next check. The annual pay raise (not bonus) is based off a percentage allotted for whichever group you work under, not individual performance.
