Pros

Flexible scheduling, two week Christmas break in addition to vacation. Co-workers were mostly awesome and hardworking. Working with students was a joy.

Cons

Per the President, there is not a career path for staff at Texas State as they are considered disposable. Staff salaries are low and capped so pay adjustments are not allowed once the cap is reached. Due to a gross discriminate class culture, many staff members are treated as second class citizens with few rights. Most of the academic offices are helmed by untrained, inexperienced faculty as Chairs, Deans and Directors who use their staff as scapegoats for their mistakes which can lead to dismissal, censure and/or lost raises. Inappropriate relationships with staff are commonplace. Many great administrative staff workers have left for other colleges due to the culture at Texas State. Benefits and health insurance have also been slashed.
