Is this your company?

Pros

- Ok if you like travelling - Some neat products - Interesting space to be in - Lots of potential to learn new stuff

Cons

The company is looking to sell some core business units. All employees have been divided up according to a game of musical chairs (i.e. the project you were on when the music stops decides your future). There was no consultation and no discussion. This is quite typical of the management style witnessed during one's time at Openwave. For such a small company, Openwave acts incredibly arrogantly, and it is no surprise they are being broken up and sold off in this manner. There is a big divide between senior management and the regular employees. No one is listened to, and employees are treated like they don't matter whilst the (very well paid) senior management continue to steer the ship in the wrong direction. Good people either leave out of frustration, or get made redundant during one of the frequent RIFs that happen.

Pros

Fascinating industry of mobile where growth is guaranteed. Global reach so you can really learn a lot about wireless carriers, their business needs, and see where real innovations in mobile messaging, applications, and infrastructure will have impact on services. Deeply embedded in many carriers around the world. Ability to travel to many other offices. Great to work with strong European counterparts to learn more about advances in mobile. Possibility that new management that comes on board could turn company around. Good salary and benefits especially for long timers but stock is in the crapper. Morale is wonky so watch for that.

Cons

Constant changes in management team makes it hard to feel real leadership. Also, culture of many acquisitions means not much culture to grab onto. Workforce is distributed, lots of folks work from home so accountability is not well managed. Leadership has been lacking for years and this has impacted morale of workforce. Stock has been very low from years after being really high so that also impact morale and reputation amongst other mobile oriented businesses. Competition is significant and growing. Not clear if the company can adapt to changes in the market. Loss of client software business means less interest in the company overall.
