Good job for young editorial staff, but few else - Anonymous employee UrbanDaddy Employee Review

Pros

High turnover in every department but editorial. A young (and let's face it, single due to the hours) writer could find no better job than the one that gives them credentials to romp around the city, talking to prominent restauranteurs and socialites. Cannot stress enough that one really needs to be single and in their early-to-mid 20's to enjoy the few perks of working here. Quality of the creative output is high quality but comes at a cost (see next section).

Cons

The most depressing thing about the day-to-day is that in contrast to the wit of UrbanDaddy content, there is zero charisma in most areas of this office. This is not the place for someone who cares about social good or people in general; staff members primarily strive for some illusion of social status and gaining party cred. Crazy long hours, lots of politics for a tiny staff, unpredictable swings in direction from leadership (perpetually hung up on minutiae). Inexperienced developers get paid mad money while the rest of the staff takes a deep pay cut as a tradeoff for working for a slick lifestyle brand. While they somehow manage to bring in enough to operate, the company is not set up to grow and static personalities at the top ensure a future of plateauing or decline.

Pros

Great work environment. Fun office. Best co-workers. Inspiring CEO. Last year has been filled with positive change and think the year ahead is going to be very inspiring and fulfilling for everyone.

Cons

Depends who's in control of music in the office.

Pros

If you're an editorial professional who enjoys writing quirky-fun reviews for party locations and trendy tchotchkes you'll probably enjoy working here.

Cons

If you are technology professional you will want to steer clear from this company. The laissez faire attitude of the technology leadership lends no innovation to the department. The main part of the business throws only a handful of meaningless projects to developers while the main load of the work is farmed out to external development houses. This may or may not be due to senior project managers' refusal to write any form of specifications to provide the internal developers with clear directions of their vision. It seems they feel it's easier to deal with external companies than its own IT department. When you do get work as a developer you're forced into a very aggressive timeline for projects while you play mind reader to guess what the actual needs of the business are. You'll spend a week developing something only to find out the company won't go forward with the project or they'll ask you to completely redo it; and then redo it again a day before the product goes live. If you do happen to land a job here learn as much as you can because you'll probably have plenty of free time before you move to the next company.
