Pros

Good benefits for the employees Competitive salary Global company so you can learn alot and also grow alot

Cons

Wave needs to improve their leadership urgently. Wave have only two Africans in the executive committee. This is not good for a company that is working on a product for Africans. There need to be more senior African leaders that can fight for other Africans too. This can lead to good representation and diversity. Unfortunately the C-level executive member responsible for WAEMU is using the situation for their selfish advantage and want to be the only one at the top, thereby silencing others and abusing power. Does not care so much about other Africans in the company and mostly favors people in Senegal. But even the Senegal team sometimes complain about this political behaviour but they pretend and do not tell the CEO because they are friends.

We are proud of our leaders at Wave, and we know that our success rests on our unique culture, which was born in Dakar as a mix of Silicon Valley and west Africa. Over the past 18 months, we’ve worked hard to build a strong and diverse leadership “bench” - for example; we now have General Managers and Directors of Operations in each operating market guiding these businesses forward. It’s not to say that we are perfect - it takes time to build up leaders and to scale communication and decision-making. This is especially true for an exceptionally diverse company like Wave (our employees are based in well over 20 different countries, and we are a hybrid software/operations company). In this cycle, you may have noticed that we’ve started holding All Hands meetings in each country in the local language. We are also experimenting with different types of meetings and ways of connecting and empowering leaders. Your feedback is valuable and helps us do better - please don’t hesitate to raise your ideas and concerns to your lead, your People Team lead, or directly to me (Emily - Chief People Officer).

Pros

Well run company and engineering department. Nice and supportive coworkers. It's a company that has a mission and really believes in it and it's ability to improve people's lives. Opportunity to travel to work with others and to experience the African markets the company operates in.

Cons

Engineering is fully remote, which can be a little isolating. That said, people are always willing to jump on a call. Pay is on the low side.
