Pros

CEO is empathetic to his core 🌟 Pre-acquistion the team was one of the most imtelligent, hardworking, empathetic company I've joined. Supporting small business owners is remarkably rewarding work and this team is highly motivated to do their best for their customers. Kudos for always putting your customer first. If hired, you'll learn to work faster (80/20), collaborate with some of Toronto's brightest and meets numerous furr friends. Post-acquisition things changed rapidly and cultural gaps became more visible.

Cons

If you identify as Black or POC, don't work here. Why? You will get treated like a sevond class citizen and unfortunately leadership has no financial motivation or incentive to change their policies/structure to support you. If hired you will experience 'from pet to threat' and there isn't a POC or Black executive member in a position to endorse. You will however get tokenized. I was a Waver for 3+ years. During my time I experienced (and witnessed) the consistent lack of awareness, empathy, or respect for racialized employees. Being a product company, Wave is an Engineering first culture. In my tenure only 9/100 POC engineers were promoted and 0/100 Black engineers. Within the larger organization these promotion trends were consistent. What you can expect? Anything from microaggression to overt racist statements from leadership like "If we have to hire Black people, we will have to lower our standards." Still unsure? Check out Wave's social media pages. Celebrating Uncle Tom for Black History Monthy 2021 might have been an unfortunate misstep but its #onbrand. Additionally it's another clear example that not a single Black person (employee or consultant) was included.

Pros

I have been working at Wave for over three years. I have watched the company grow from 70 employees to over 250. I can genuinely say the culture has remained to be one that feels like a family, we push each other to be the best we can be, and the leadership team is truly supportive. Looking back at my time at Wave has been incredible. The room for growth is enormous, and if you have passion, drive and love, what you do, Wave makes anything possible. Not only do we have a yoga room, an arcade, beer fridge and unlimited snacks; it's more than just that. The people, the leadership and our customers also make this all possible and make Wave a great place to work.

Cons

There are no RRSPs, as a young professional this is top of mind when it comes to saving for retirement.
