Great people, but awful leadership with a history of misogny - Engineer Wellframe Employee Review

Pros

The employees at Wellframe are all wonderful people. I have enjoyed working with them - and individually, most employees are talented/skilled at their job. The office is nice, and in a good location.

Cons

The leadership has let down the employees that have worked tirelessly to get the company to where it is now. Employees who work hard and exceed expectations are simply given more work, and are not recognized for their contributions. This has lead to exceptionally high burnout, in both engineering and product. Top performing employees were offered raises lower than the inflation rate this past year. Every time a deadline is missed, the senior leadership teams' answer to the problem is to scapegoat someone below them, and then reorganize the teams in order to "improve efficiency". This has led to some people switching teams 4 times this year, other people being promoted and then demoted days later, and all kinds of chaos handing off partially finished projects. The company is either unable or unwilling to hire engineers and talented employees at market value. There have been important job reqs open for 6+ months, and almost 0 applicants. Salaries are significantly under market value for engineering and product. This has caused a significant talent drain, with no adequate replacements in the hiring pipeline. Many of the long standing engineers and product managers have been quitting, which is a big cause for concern regarding long term platform stability and development. Finally, and perhaps worst of all, the senior leadership team has a demonstrated history of misogyny. In the past few years, the CTO has pushed several women out of a position of power, and while 1 time may be a coincidence, 3 times is not... This is the main reason I'm looking around for a new job - I am not comfortable working at a company where this is acceptable behavior.

Pros

Awesome office in downtown Boston. Some of the best coworkers I've ever had. The cause (helping patients navigate their conditions through an app). Flexibility to work remote.

Cons

Wellframe went down the hole when the other company bought it. All our benefits changed from being the best we have ever had to being the worst we have ever seen. The company structure changed as well, and many Wellframers were laid off. The new company was also going through staff changes, and the Human Resources department was new and did not know what to do or how to help the many folks who now had to rely on them for their Human Resources needs. Since the purchase, I have seen my coworkers get laid off one after another, what is also putting more pressure on the folks who stay to do their work in double, with more responsibility and work, while no pay increase. People have been given a month to improve their performances or else get fired, and the ones who work harder to stay are still let go. So sad to see.
