Pros

The benefits are nice. The people generally are nice but do feel clicky. The location is awesome with the office feeling open and encouraging team work. The free food and drinks. The unlimited vacation. The unlimited alcohol.

Cons

My biggest challenge with the company is the vision. I think they are trying too hard to be something that they are not going to be. Sure there is a lot of very smart people working there but what good will that be if they lack direction. The CEO is kind but lacks vision and leadership skills that will take the company to where it needs to be. There is not a clear goal to what Yummly should be and a strong voice leader to get the company there so the teams are running in different directions creating diversions. More and more smart people will see this realization and leave unfortunately and they are losing some good people already. They need a leader that can take charge from the parent company and take it to the next level. It's clearly time for Yummly to grow up and take their product more seriously. Outside of that, while people are nice it's a very bro environment. You're pretty much out if you don't fit into one of those environment. And is it normal for the CEO to tell people write a positive review on Glassdoor so they can get the "Best Place To Work'" award? Makes me wonder about all the other great reviews.

Thank you so much for your candid feedback. We want all potential candidates and people interested in the company to see all perspectives from current and former employees (whether positive or negative). We certainly agree that Yummly has a talented, smart group of people who are committed to working hard, respecting others, and launching great products. We believe that this team is committed to developing a shared vision for a successful future and executing well to make this company the best platform for home cooking. Our core values, as outlined in the Yummly Culture Deck on our careers page, are explicit in welcoming a diversity of ideas, styles, and approaches at work while firmly adhering to our “no jerks policy.” We appreciate your perspective on the need to own and shape our relationship with our parent company. We have continued to build a strong working relationship with the goal of building world-class products. We strive every day to hear and meet the needs of our talented team to do their job well, to meet the aspirations of our parent company, and most importantly, to continue to innovate to our customer needs. Both Whirlpool and Yummy are committed to gender equality both in words coming from the top leadership at Whirlpool (see CEO Marc Bitzer sharing his perspective on gender equality) and actions (Yummly hosting events such as Girl Geek meet-ups). A diverse set of perspectives, cultures, backgrounds, and experiences from our team, as well as our parent company, help to bring out the best in the output of our work. Yummly is a special place in that we value our culture and people. If you are to ever visit again, you will see this in our culture, diversity, and daily interactions executing on our ambitious vision. We will never stop learning how to improve and will always support a diverse environment where everyone can feel comfortable being themselves.
