I guess I would wonder why this person stayed for 3 years being so unhappy. We have been in business for 31 years while many of our competitors have gone by the way side. I will not go line by line but I would like to address a couple of points. I have stated many times that we want you to be happy working here or any job. We all spend so much time working that we should be sure we are doing work that we enjoy. It is nothing personal but if your job or the company are not a good fit for you then I will personally work with you to help you improve your situation in the company or help you find a job elsewhere. It does not do the company or the employee any good to be staying at a job that makes them unhappy. While I try to make statements like this in a positive way I guess this person construed it negatively. We wish this and any employee that leaves the best of luck on their future endeavors. Thank you, George

Pros

Great location Good health benefits Nothing else here to say, on to the cons!

Cons

Organizational Changes every few months Management is way to involved in every little task Salaries are poor, compared to averages for in the industry In order to even get cost of living raises you have to work 50+ hours a week They want work-o-holics, but don't provide the environment for them to shine Opinions of those lower than management don't exist or matter Ideas of company perks are free popcorn and a in house convenience store ( which you have to pay for )

Yes in 2015 we were experiencing tremendous changes. We acquired 2 companies just before 2015 and we were adjusting to new business models and new processes. As we all know change is hard. Sometimes management does need to get involved in the details during times of large transitions. If management does not know what is going on in the trenches then they can not make good decisions. We also rely on each and every employee providing feedback to be sure that decisions are made with the proper information. We also know that sometimes we make decisions that do not pan out. If any company is not making mistakes then they are not trying hard enough. We will make good decisions and poor decisions at times but we will evaluate the situations and try to make sure we do not make the same poor decision again. We all have to try to learn from our mistakes. Jobs like developers can be accomplished from different work environments at different times of the day. We embrace this philosophy combined with the ability to set proper expectations and deadlines. Some people prefer to work in the office others prefer to work in other locations we embrace that flexibility as long as deadlines are being met and we have open and timely communication. I think we try to act Like ESI and we know we are not a fortune 500 company. We are small tech company building products and services that are easy and intuitive to use for small to medium sized businesses. Thank you, George

tech company without tech perks

Pros

Mostly laid-back, normal hours, education bonus (will pay for certain educational costs). Decent 9-5 job and most people are very personable and nice. If you're lucky, you might work on a modern technology stack. Occasionally (on the rare side, though) there is a fun event/meal of some kind, but generally it is the same day-in, day-out. Good choice for intro-level worker who needs to level up their experience.

Cons

Despite being essentially a tech company, company leadership does not manage it like a tech company or value modern tech practices as much as they should. Salary is not high enough to attract or keep top-tier tech workers. Investments in subpar technnologies have made it a chore to work on some projects. Many of the perks of working at great tech companies such as flexible hours, high pay, nice campus, etc. are not present here. Company-wide meetings are at 8AM on fridays once a month or so and you are expected to be there (not a big deal but also pretty annoying because there isn't really room for everyone) If you're considering working here, it is a decent job that you probably won't hate, but if you're even a little ambitious you will probably be thinking about where to move on to in 6 months.

As this was written a number of years ago I wanted to be sure to update my response. We are a tech company but we are not a large tech company giant. We do have sold hundreds of thousands of systems over 30 years and we have thousands of cloud customers that we do business with every month and that list continues to build quickly. We are now a technology and a services company. As part of our core values we "Deliver products and services that are easy and intuitive to use". This is what truly makes us different than traditional tech companies in our space. We try not to focus as much on the technology but more on the user experience associated with our products. Companies can offer the best technology in the world but if it is not easy and intuitive to use then it does not provide the intended benefit. We are also not a tech giant in terms of size and revenue. If you want to work for a large company then we are not the place for you. However, if you want to work for a small nimble tech company and you want to have an opportunity to make a difference, learn and contribute to the success of your fellow employees and the company as a whole then this is the place for you. At a smaller company it is easier to make a really big difference and we are always looking for difference makers. We do have big ambitions and we do have lofty goals and we want to be the best version of ESI that we can be! Thank you, George
