I worked at FPInnovations (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Challenging work that is continually changing
    - Flexible work hours, pretty good benefits, reasonable pay
    - Working from home but with a great team
    - Lots of opportunities for learning

    Cons

    - Industry Advisors are often an afterthought in the main offices
    - Teams are expected to find funding for their work and even if funded can be let go
    - Isolated from main offices and labs, sometimes difficult to get cooperation from those locations
    - Not a lot of opportunities for advancement

    Advice to Management

FPInnovations is a very top heavy organization with lots of management . Its unfortunate that they choose to layoff those of us on the ground and in the labs. Not sure if that paid off for them.

I have been working at FPInnovations full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good job for newbies. Decent benefits, flexible hours, and health insurance. Good opportunity to learn.

    Cons

Colossal administration that contributes absolutely nothing. Mind-boggling number of managers, many of whom know nothing about science they are supposed to lead. They do very little of actual work, while scientists are heavily overworked. Favoritism and cronyism is prevalent. No room to grow if you not willing to jump on a "yes" bandwagon. Inevitably, frustration sets in and it may not be worth it.

    Advice to Management

The dynamics in the company is seriously wrong, a serious lack of knowledge, leadership and professionalism, not sure if it can be fixed.

I have been working at FPInnovations full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Decent pay, good office location

    Cons

The people running it are real cowboys. So many VPs who lack vision and strut around like they own the company, spending without regard to the current financial situation. The staff is encouraged to cut costs, and there have been many lay offs, but the senior management often flies between cities to have catered meetings. Nepotism is also commonplace as contracts are given to senior management's wife. No career opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Stop spending. Seriously, stop spending and stop traveling around offices to have meetings.

    I worked at FPInnovations full-time

    Pros

    Work with little Supervision
    Excellent pay
    Valued Opinion
    Good Benifits
I was able to work on projects I was passionate ab

    Cons

    Dysfunctional Management
lack of resource to truly do a good job.
relies on reputation to make it in the industry
for a technology company there is little technology in use.
need to be more responsive to the client

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a shake up in upper and middle management. Middle management is over worked. Upper management is researchers promoted to run the company. Not business people that would know how to run a company. If it was not for the government funding the company would have a serious problems.

Letting go people that were working on client projects and bring money into the company is never a good idea.
