I worked at Fast Retailing for less than a year

    Pros

Ability to work on projects outside of your department. International exposure to business processes and laws in different regions of the world. Great people who are committed to achieving the CEO's vision for UNIQLO.

    Cons

The company has other brands that don't get the same focus or dedication as UNIQLO or Theory. Several processes are fractured and opportunities are missed because of the lack of cohesion. The people in the home office in Japan seem to be out of touch with the needs and goals of teams in the other regions face. And their antiquated need to have all senior leadership be in Japan is not helpful to people trying to... future their careers within the company. Also the lack of opportunities for women, anyone over 35, and anyone who is not Japanese will force highly qualified people to seek opportunities elsewhere. The expectation for people to work an 8 1/2 hour day and then additional hours to attend meetings with Japanese resources but not requiring the same "dedication" from Japanese team members is also a con.

    Advice to Management

Build the center of excellence where the true talent and ability is located. Do not limit teams with talent and knowhow based on region. Putting people in charge who are at the home office just because they are there and not based on actual knowledge and experience is extremely demoralizing.

I have been working at Fast Retailing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They offer competitive salaries in corporate roles and focus on improvement both professionally and personally.

    Cons

All the brands operate very independently with little direction from the parent company, except for Uniqlo. There's very little offered to improve morale across all brands and the benefits are minimal compared to what's offered by other companies of this size.

    Advice to Management

Keep your employees engaged and happy. Not only by giving us books to read, but having employee incentives (not necessarily bonus based) and better employee benefits . Low satisfaction from employees is why it is hard to keep your best players on your team.

I have been working at Fast Retailing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work with some great people. Interesting brands. Great growth goals.

    Cons

The relationship between the parent company (Fast Retailing) and the local brands is quite challenging for some employees to manage. You are caught between HQ initiatives and local management resistance to change.

    Advice to Management

Well qualified staff are necessary to implement global initiatives.
