I have been working at First Watch part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is trained to work together so you are set up for success. The steps of service are much more efficient compared to other restaurants and help servers turn tables faster. Everyone works the same shift and the hours are early. I am home by 4:00pm everyday.

    Cons

Transitioning to this job from other server jobs may be difficult only because of the ticket writing and steps of service.

    Advice to Management

Rotate schedules and sections more fairly.

I worked at First Watch full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good money over 100 per day typically, off around 3 pm everyday, customers are easy, tables turn fast, team oriented atmosphere. Not very much side work or opening work. Corporate so the company is very structured for training and how you greet a table and how you write checks.

    Cons

You will probably work almost every Saturday and Sunday, so don't expect to have weekends off. When you first start some of the girls are rude and not friendly. There are not any heat lamps so you have to drop everything you're doing to run food. On a Sunday when it is slammed and you're the only one running food, it gets extremely frustrating. And instead of management stepping in and telling slackers to pick it up and be a team player, they don't say anything and that's when the girls get confrontational with each other. You might have to buss your own tables when it's busy or at the end of the day when the busier decides to cut himself off the floor. Openers get there at 6:30 am. Also you ring your checks into the computer just to print the receipt. You have a hand written check you turn in to the kitchen window which they are very specific with how you write them.

    Pros

Able to make great money, you received your credit card tips at the end of each shift, management was great at first.

    Cons

When I was first hired I was told that they would always work with me if I needed a weekend off. Sadly, when I needed the occasional weekend off (always asking at least two weeks off in advance) I would receive fewer hours on the schedule. After awhile I had to quit because the management was too petty.

    Advice to Management

Work with your staff, they have lives too. If they are trying to take time off in advance and you promise them that time off don't try and cancel it last minute or punish them by cutting hours.

Quality of life can't be beaten in the industry. Great product and a culture I can be proud to represent.

    Cons

It's physically demanding due to the fast pace of breakfast.

    Advice to Management

Keep growing and promoting from within. Continue to develop systems and programs that reinforce our culture.

    Pros

Work Life Balance! No nights, pretty close to the advertised 50 hour work week. Best you can ask for in this industry.

    Cons

You are a salaried employee and you are required to account for 6 hours of hourly labor each shift. It can impede on the actual managing of employees.

I worked at First Watch (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hours of operation. The money could be good if you wasnt made to feel to out of place when you walked in.

    Cons

Management was very hypocritical. Made it very clear that they had their favorites. Rules didnt apply to everyone only the ones they wanted the rules to apply to.

    Advice to Management

You expect consistency then you should set an example and be consistent your self.
