A perfect place if you're a yes man / woman

Pros

The company is certainly helping people start companies and making it easier for them to do so.

Cons

The founder and CEO, Mark, is a laughable excuse for a leader. I've witnessed him routinely berate employees in public Slacks, calling them all sorts of demeaning names. Any attempt to get him to stop or learn from these flaws is met with defiance. Despite being 23 and this being his first exposure to startups, he possesses a "my way or the highway" mindset and working style, and is rarely receptive to feedback regarding resolving business initiatives. He refuses to listen to alternative ideas, ways of working and achieving outcomes, and categorically rejects any opportunity to be challenged. If you do in fact challenge him, know that your days will be numbered. It's no wonder Firstbase has such a hard time building a culture - anyone with experience that challenges the status quo or offers their perspective on solving problems gets shown the door; it was a maddening place to work watching it happen to multiple people. If you are comfortable being a person that only says "yes" and don't mind working for a loose cannon that's shown no interest in changing his ways, then this is the place for you. Tread carefully.

Potential but severely limited by CEO

Pros

Remote and international colleagues (many from Brazil).

Cons

First time CEO with fixed mindset. Openly humiliates employees on Slack. Significant churn problem with new people coming and going every few months. Good place to start career in tech if no experience.

Contributed to diverse problems Given large responsibility Team members were skilled and capable Team members come from 3 different continents Great collaboration in planning responsibilities with managers Revenue margins secured the company for a reasonable time without relying on fundraising Base compensation package has drastically improved to match competitive market Customer experience is prioritized and considered frequently

Cons

Low visibility for IC's on company forecast Broken mission/vision statement Culture openly and verbally does not support "work/life balance" Benefits outside of base compensation have deteriorated or been taken away in the past year CEO is impersonal and rarely uses established leadership funnel to communicate Stale fundraising over the past 2 years have put extreme pressure on BizDev and Product/Eng to sell and build new products Frequent turnover or unexpected layoffs of top talent and culture contributors
