I have been working at Goodmans full-time

    Pros

Although the compensation is decent it is not worth the stress.

    Cons

The "old" Goodmans was fantastic. People, including mgmt, were very supportive and recognized achievements. The "new" Goodmans should be avoided at all costs. Many good directors quit or were forced out and replaced with uncaring, unsympathetic and less than supportive management. This is particularly true in the H.R. and Library areas. It is too bad and quite sad because it used to be a great place to work. Not anymore. Save yourself the time and look elsewhere, many better firms, and managers, to choose from.

    Advice to Management

Support your people, stop saying it and do it. A lot of good people have already left or were let go. The new culture is not supportive and this has, and will continue to play, a challenge in retaining staff.

I have been working at Goodmans full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Goodmans has a fantastic culture. Everybody is included in the events. There is no segregation between lawyers and staff. Family environment.

    Cons

    Health benefits could be better

    Advice to Management

Keep looking into different options for healthcare benefits.

    Pros

Fantastic culture. A place where you can enjoy your work but also enjoy your time with colleagues. Feels like a family.

    Cons

No different than any other large law firm: long hours and deals/trials that are time consuming and can impinge on your ability to manage your personal calendar.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. As you grow, make sure to keep that culture of a familiar place of work where everyone knows everyone.

I worked at Goodmans full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome culture. Everyone functions as a family and are always willing to help each other out. The moral within the firm is great!

    Cons

The pay scale is a little bit lower than it should be for IT compared to industry standards. It's hard to learn and excel due to the fact many consultants are hired. Not a lot of in-house processes.

    Advice to Management

My supervisor was great! Nothing to change.

    Pros

Pays/treats assistants well compared to other big firms.
Management has flexibility and will discuss with employee work load or work-related problems with view to help rather than to punish.
Provides good training upon hiring and continuous as needed.
Job security - they did not lay off anyone during recession even though they could've used the savings on overhead costs and suffered like all other big firms.

    Cons

Bad benefit package compared to other big firms.
Not much room within company to move up. The nature of the jobs is such that there is not much movement within firm.
    Little overtime opportunity.

    Advice to Management

    Improve benefits package.
    Provide more overtime opportunities.
Provide some perks, as used to do with fruit days etc.
