Pros

- Leadership cares about the mission and is making great strides to effect positive change and growth in the company - Very remote/hybrid-friendly - Cares about lifting up marginalized voices - Publishes great books - Good benefits - Great people - I have better work-life balance here than at any other job I've had.

Cons

- Pay can be considered low for general publishing industry standards, but in my opinion, it is actually pretty high by ministry standards. IVP is definitely viewed as a ministry, but the environment is much more professional than other ministries I have worked at.

Great people, bad pay

Pros

Coworkers are friendly and supportive, work-life balance is excellent, and the company culture overall is pretty good, especially if you fit the demographic—majority white Protestant with socially liberal leanings and an active church life.

Cons

The pay is bad. I am college educated for my field and my position is entry level; I make about $20/hr. Hourly pay is considered more fair for lower level employees as it compensates them well for overtime, but I do not work much overtime (personal values re work life balance) and so make less than the listed job description I was hired for. Also, for what it’s worth—you must sign multiple statements of belief upon getting hired. The main one is a pretty standard Christian credo that you receive before accepting the job and that is acceptable to most anyone who considers themself Christian, but there are more specifics presented after hiring, including a statement on sexuality that definitively limits Christian beliefs on sexuality to one-man one-woman marriage, no flexibility in gender identity, etc. I have not tested this boundary yet, but I am keenly aware that if I disagree publicly with this I can legally be fired for breach of contract (so I would have no grounds to seek recompense for discrimination.)
